Winter 2010 Refresh

This entry was published on October 27, 2010 and may be out of date.

The sketches and draft mock-ups was done back in February. Launched on the 21st of October. This project has moved at a snails pace. Personally, I have been very much occupied with a few large design and development projects that drained all my time and resources. But now that most of those projects have completed or neared completion, I figured it would be nice time to redesign the good old site and update my portfolio.

HTML5

The markup is entirely HTML5. Being very new to the HTML5 spec, it has been a real learning curve.

I have only used some of the basic HTML5 tags and I realise that the full potential of the new standard is not yet materialised. I am still gathering more and more details and learning bits and pieces from the specification as I develop this site.

There is no better way to learn than hands-on. I suppose the markup will be more standards compliant and more semantic once I get full hold of this.

Archives

The archive section was a bit tricky. I wanted something different for a design and not just a mundane list of months and categories. So I took the bold step towards hacking out my own WordPress plugin1 to serve the purpose.

Portfolio

The Portfolio section has been introduced. I previously had a PDF downloadable version of the portfolio but now there is a web version as well.

There is a lot more work to be done with this section and it will soon go through another round of polishing. New content will also be added.

WordPress 3.0

WordPress 3.0 comes with a plethora of new cutting edge features. It has finally become a full blown CMS with the new custom post_types feature. The possibilities are limitless with this.

Future developments

There is much to look forward to with this website. The portfolio section will be expanded to cover my entire professional experience from 2004.  There will be some real nifty features coming up as well.

All in all, an exciting launch. Although there is obviously a lot more work yet to be done, this is quite exciting nevertheless.

Do watch this space for updates.
